Prepare Pediatric Breathing Circuit Perform Leak Test
A. Standard Pediatric Circuit Configuration
The Standard Pediatric Breathing Circuit is extendable up to 60 inches, and comes with a 1L (default) latex free reservoir bag. It comes with either 1 or 2 BV (Bacterial/Viral) Filter(s). If your circuit kit comes with a single BV filter, please attach it to the expiratory limb of your circuit. Our pediatric circuits do not come standard with a HME filter. HME filters should be used with caution in infants and younger children since they have the potential to increase ETCO2, increase dead space, and increase resistance to flow.
1L reservoir bag should be use for ages 6 months to 6 yrs (under 25-30Kg) 2L reservoir bag should be used for older children and pre teen (between 30-50 kg) 3L adult reservoir bag should be used for older teenagers and young adults (over 50 kg)
B. Perform the Leak Test
Once the circuit is properly assembled and attached, perform the leak test as prescribed for your workstation. The APL Valve at 30 cm H2O as seen in the image below is for the Apollo Draeger Anesthesia Workstation.
C. Neonatal Breathing Circuit Configuration
The Neonatal Breathing Circuit is a stiffer fixed length circuit with very low compliance. The neonatal circuit comes with a 0.5L (default) reservoir bag. The Y connector is designed to minimize anatomical dead space. The neonatal circuit does not come with a BV filter. A HME filter attachment is available for this circuit. The HME filter must be used with caution in
